Best Newborn Photographer on the Gold Coast | Questions you should be asking your Photographer

When choosing a photographer to photograph your newborn baby it is so important to choose someone who is correctly qualified for the job! The last thing you want is someone inexperienced handling and potentially harming your newborn baby! So in today’s blog post I’m am putting together a bunch of questions you can ask your potential future photographer to assure they are the best person for the job! And if in doubt, book in with Dreamy Moon Photography because we have you covered!

Question to ask…

What is your qualifications when it comes to photography. (Is this photographer self taught or do they have qualifications or mentoring, under their belt).
Do they hold a first aid certificate, (we love working with tiny hearts education!).
Do they hold a WWCC, ABN etc? (This will really help differentiate amateur to professionals).
Have you got a studio with flash lighting or do you work with natural light?
Are you a lifestyle newborn photographer or do you specialise in newborn posing portraiture?
Do you include a client wardrobe, props and accessories?

By asking these questions or researching your photographer thoroughly you will be able to distinguish between a qualified, trained photographer who is experienced in their field against someone who is just starting out with little experience.

Price is also a good indicator whether or not you’re working with a fully qualified newborn photographer. If they have years of experience, training, all the equipment, accessories, props and everything else that goes into running a business. Then it is expected that their price will reflect that. Rather then someone who is just starting out offering super cheap sessions!

It can be overwhelming for everyone when it comes to the day of family photos. Especially for toddlers and young children. But here at Dreamy Moon Photography, our aim is to create the smoothest experience for you and your family. So here are a few of our favourite tips and ticks to creating an easy photoshoot! Tips

The best thing you can start with is gently preparing and building up excitement for your toddler. Explain to them that you’re going to get pictures taken. Let them play with a toy camera or a real old one if you have that on hand. Get them involved! This will help build up anticipation and excitement and give your toddler an element of control and security.
We suggest planing something fun to do after the shoot, for example getting an ice cream. This helps those young children who don’t really want to participate have something to look forward to, because let’s face it. Everybody loves ice cream (we recommend the cream at donut time in Burleigh)!
Now we definitely have a few studio tricks up our sleeve and that is setting up a fun bubbly atmosphere. Here at Dreamy Moon we love playing your Child’s favourite music. Getting the bubbles out and even our little squeaky to that seems to make all the kiddos laugh!
Finally our biggest tip is to stay calm and surrender to the outcome. Children are their own individual autonomous beings. Sometimes truely and autheicallyl capturing the moment makes for the best photos to cherish and look back on! We love a good candid picture over here, something that documents the phase of life that you’re in.

The best part

Ahhh! Where to begin, where to begin… Can I just sum up this blog and say the whole thing. 😂

Just kidding. Of course we will get into the nitty gritty!

There are so many avenues I can go with this but let’s start off with the most important!

There is nothing, and I mean nothing! More special than creating timeless memories for people to cherish. And without getting to cumbersome, those memories that I’ve captured are especially special when there is significance behind them. Such as a family member passing, rainbow baby, capturing love! A new baby even!

Those meaningful relationships

When it’s time to choose the images with our clients and they’re balling their eyes out from love and joy, that! Is a feeling that I just can’t explain.

It’s so much more than snapping pictures, it’s building meaningful relationships with people. Being apart of their life story and adding genuine meaning to them!

Photography is so much more than the art, it’s the service and that is something really special.

Miami QLD Newborn Photographer | Arnhem & Theo’s Christmas Mini

The session

Arnhem and Theo love getting photos taken, well Theo more than Arnhem…. But you know how temperamental babies can be. One minute they are all for the photos and the next they need their mama and dada. But that is why investing into an experienced baby photographer is key.

I can guarantee that we can turn any sour situation into timeless captured moments of your little one!

The outfits

For Arnhem and Theo’s shoot they wore neutral complimentary outfits. Arnhem was dressed in a plain white, ribbed romper paired with a muted pink bow and an oatmeal bonnet which we switched up in the middle of the shoot.

As for Theodore, he wore light blue jeans and an oatmeal linen long sleeved shirt. Of course he wanted to throw a bit of personality into the shoot, as five year olds do. So we accessorised with his favourite green sunglasses.

The little moments

Theo is always so happy to get photos taken. He is always asking to be in front of the camera and poses so well. From contagious smiles to the cheekiest expressions.

Arnhem took a little while to warm up. She wasn’t happy at first but after a quick little milk break she was ready to jump in and pose for the photos.

Arnhem is just starting to sit so we popped her in the sleigh with Theo behind and then on her tummy for some floor shots.

The photoshoot was so fun and the memories are truly timeless and everlasting!

We are spoilt with choice on the Gold Coast, when it comes to family, baby and newborn photographers. There are so many different styles from lifestyle, to studio, fine art and so much more!

But it can definitely be a little overwhelming when choosing the photographer that will be best for you and your family!

So in today’s blog, I wanted to share with you some handy tips to choosing the best photographer for your needs. And the difference with booking into Dreamy Moon Photography in comparison to everyone else on the Gold Coast.

Photoshoot type?

Firstly it’s important to know what type of shoot you want. Whether that be newborn, cakesmash, family, wedding ect. The list goes on.

Once you have that down pat, you can have a little think about what style you gravitate towards. Do you love indoors, outdoors, light and airy, moody, creamy, high end.

This will give you a great visual representation on who you should gravitate towards. Style is the most important thing in my opinion!

Next you should discuss a budget. Is this a once in a lifetime photo shoot opportunity such as newborn photos (they’re only young for so long), where you should splurge a bit.

New props

We can’t start the month of October off without getting a few little props! Or in our case accessories. We love supporting local vendors and small Australian businesses. Which is why we always try to shop as local as possible!

I feel like when you run a business that involves babies, it’s so easy to continuously upgrade the client closet because everything is so cute! Of course we want to also have new upgraded things for our clients to use too!

So let’s jump straight into the little haul!

We were really vibing the blossom and pear range at the moment. So we got on the band wagon and purchased the sweetest little over sized bow in the colour muted pink. This is such a versatile piece for newborns all the way to cakesmash babies. It has the perfect amount of stretch to accommodate for most baby sizes.

This little head band will be perfectly paired with a little white romper or dress. Or even a neutral coloured newborn wrap! We can not wait to use it in our next photography session.

All the accessories!

The second little accessories that we purchased was the sweetest little hand knitted bonnet. In the colour beige. This will be perfect for 6 month old sessions and sitter milestones. It will pair perfectly with any neutral outfit or even the cord knitted onesie that we have in our client closet.

How exciting! it is almost that time of the year again! This year has honestly gone so fast for the Dreamy Moon Photography family! And now it is almost Christmas time… We love Christmas, I mean who doesn’t? But there is honestly nothing more exciting than being apart of the festivities and capturing the moments of your babies first Christmas and your children’s reaction to all the magic that December brings about!

Of course we will be doing our annual Christmas mini sessions. This year we are offering both studio and outdoor sessions. We just picked up a few new Christmas themed props too! Who can’t forget about Mrs Clause, she will be back offering a feminine alternative to Santa! Someone that the kids can be super comfortable with!

Outdoor Christmas minis are the perfect alternative to the standard shopping centre Santa photos. You will be allotted a private time slot where you do not have to line up for ages! The best part of it all is that this year you will be able to select your favourite images and have the option to add more if you choose so.

We have specifically selected our Christmas minis to be photographed at the end of October. That way you will have plenty of time to organise gifts and have your images back in time for Christmas!

Burleigh Heads QLD Newborn Photography | Postpartum Anxiety

Those postpartum anxiety feels creep up out of nowhere!

One minute you’re in a total baby bliss bubble the next you’re questioning everything. I wanted to touch base on my own personal experience with postpartum anxiety this time around after having my baby this year, February 2022. I can’t even remember when it became a thing but it just became something that I started to notice would creep up often.

Trigger warning. For people who may feel upset by the talk of post natal anxiety, fears and depression.

In 2016

In 2016 prior to having my first son I was in a major car accident. That kind of kick started a lot of my traumas surrounding death and loss of loved ones. Throw a baby into a mix and that was years of therapy that I committed too. I truely thought I was past those traumas until I had my second baby. The postpartum phase amplifies a lot of suppressed issues.

I started having panic attacks in the middle of the night. Worried that my baby would stop breathing even when she was perfectly fine and safe. I would fear that if I let people mind her, she might get hurt. (Absolutely not the case at all though). Sometimes I would get worried that in the car she would stop breathing and I wouldn’t know because I was driving.

Driving became very limited with our baby because she absolutely hates the car and I could not bear to leave the house due to my debilitating anxiety.

This is just the tip of the iceberg to my experience with postpartum anxiety. I’m so blessed to have the most supportive fiancé. An incredible circle of family, friends and community.

To be on the other side…

I’m so glad to be on the other side of this. Thank to some handy tips that I fell back on. Such as a strong routine, an ear to talk to and really slowing down. These are somethings that worked for me and may be different for everyone.

Tweed Nsw Cake Smash Client Reveal Day | Courtney

There is nothing we love more than seeing the reaction of our clients face when they see their precious babies printed and crafted into heirloom artwork!

It was client reveal day and Courtney came into the studio to collect her beautiful folio box. We did a full reveal video on the folio box and all the detail from pearlescent paper to milk linen colouring.

But back to the reveal of course. Courtney absolutely loved seeing the folio box in person for the first time. She was completely smitten by how precious her baby looked! She ever couldn’t believe how much his changed in just a few weeks.

We had the please of capturing Courtney’s reaction on camera!
