Tweed NSW Newborn Photography | Why it’s important to educate yourself on birth

I want to start this blog off with a little disclaimer:

It is so important to birth where you feel safe mama, whether that’s at home, the hospital or amongst your favourite people.

Okay let’s jump right in because this is something I am super passionate about and want all mamas to have the birth of their dreams.

Firstly it is so important to educate your self around birth, birth anatomy, home birth, hospital birth, inductions, c sections, naturally birth etc. The best way to do this is through a hypno birthing course. Such as calm birth. A doula is another amazing option that will work along side, to help inform you, with your options. Of course if you’re anything like me you’ll spend every night researching, reading, listening to podcasts such as the midwitch or birth realm.

Secondly I think it’s really important to get clear on what your goals are. If you can go into birth informed but opened minded, you will truely get the best outcome.

Know your rights and have a strong team that can advocate for you in your most vulnerable state. This is why I love a good birth plan because it allows everyone to get on your page and know what outcome your striving for. Having an involved birthing partner is crucial to your birth. It’s so important to feel safe and this special person will help anchor you.

Hello, I am Tiana the founder of Dreamy Moon Photography. Dreamy Moon Photography is based around creating unique experiences for our clients who want a trusted professional to guide them through their session.

Why Dreamy Moon Photography started:

Now I go into much more detail in my other blog pose “ What photography means to me”. But I will briefly explain how DMP became about.Having my first child inspired me to start DMP. I wanted to capture the endless moments and realised that I could do the same for other families. Photography was already a hobby of mine, but I wanted to learn the professional reigns.

Tiana’s Education:

Education and knowledge is the key to growth. I strongly believe in investing into yourself and after knowing that I wanted to turn photography into a career, I went down the education rabbit hole. It first started with a few courses through click love grow. This is amazing for setting you up for the foundations. But I knew in my heart that I really wanted to work with babies. With that in mind I did some specialised training with Sarah Scott, Natasha Galley, Emily Wilcokson and Meg Bitton.

At Dreamy Moon Photography, we are continually adding to our education. We strongly believe in investing into our experience each year. We are currently working with a mentor who is known internationally for their work. Creating a safe environment for our clients is number one priority and that coincides with correct training. Now if you also need want to get into the nitty gritty, I’ve also done several courses in Nutrition and Dietetics, Food science and Graphic design at Newcastle university. Which I guess shaped me to be who I am today.

Tiana’s experience:

I’ve been specialising in newborn photography for four years now. I love working with babies and have focused my education around that niche.

In the last two years we have started photographing weddings. Now this is a completely different style of photography and I’m all for it. We love being able to travel and capture the candid moments of someone’s special day.

I grew up in a household that did not priorities memories…

Growing up in a disadvantaged household with 8 children, you get lost in the crowd. As a family of 10 we only have one image of all of us together. After having my first baby, who is now five years old. There was a part of me that felt empty. Whilst I was pregnant and becoming excited to bring my first born baby into the world. So than, I searched for images of myself and my family. To see the resemblance of what my new baby would look like in comparison to my own baby photos, meant so much to me. It was than and there that I realised I have near to no images of myself as a baby. It still stings knowing that I will never know what baby Tiana looked like. I will never be able to do side by side comparisons of mum, dad and baby.

I had subconsciously made and oath to myself

To document, capture and freeze moments in time of my family and children. I had actually started a YouTube channel as well as learning the basics of photography to support this dream. Now if you know me personally, you know that I am a dreamer. I love that even when you put your mind to something you can achieve it. That was the catalyst to how Dreamy Moon Photography began. Firstly I became obsessed with learning the ins and outs of becoming a photography. It ignited something within me, something that felt so empty before. When you grow up with childhood trauma the biggest thing you do for yourself is to nurture your inner child. That is what photography does for me…

Fast forward five years and photography still means the world to me. I feel so honoured and fulfilled being apart of families earliest moments. Meeting new people and creating connections are just the tip of the iceberg to why this job is so fulfilling and meaningful. The best part about photography is creating tangible heirloom art for families to cherish and pass down for years to come.

Korbin’s arrival

Chelsea is a long term friend of ours. When we found out she was expecting we knew we had to get together and organise a newborn photoshoot for her baby boy once he was here. Fast forward a little bit and Korbin made his arrival. Chelsea explained how her birth with Korbin didn’t go as planned. It was a highly intervention and stressful birth resulting in an episiotomy And vacuum delivery. However Chelsea is one of the strongest women we know and has walked away from her birth experience empowered and determined to make the next chapter of her life the best experience ever. The planning

Chelsea let us have free reign with organising Korbin’s newborn shoot. We decided to use this opportunity as a creative session and meticulously planned out a studio lifestyle session. Think creams, whites and neutrals. With layered textures, beads and of course pampas grass. A sheer white curtain draped over the set.

The session

Korbin did so well during his session, especially being a slightly older baby. He slept the entire time and loved being wrapped. He was wrapped in an oatmeal layer and a beige mohair bonnet to match. We photographed him on the bed, basket and in mamas arms. Chelsea did amazing during the session and looked stunning in her navy, floral dress.

A special moment captured between baby and mama. An everlasting bond…

Newborn Photography Gold Coast QLD | Brayden’s Cake Smash

The planning

It’s cake smash time, Brayden is turning one! Of course we had to get to planning straight away when Brayden’s mama got in contact with me to organise a session. Think blues, sage and browns for this sessions decor. We pulled out the fine art backdrop and dressed Brayden in a sage onesie. Adding a few dried flowers such as wheat and pampas. A perfect combination.

The session

Brayden arrived so bubbly in the studio. We dressed him in his outfit and started the session with some portraits photos. He was such a happy little baby. Clapping and laughing. We played his favourite song, “the wheels on the bus” by cocomelon. After capturing some milestone photos, the cake was brought out. Time for the smash! Brayden had so much fun exploring and squashing the cake. Between his fingers and his toes. He was so fast and was crawling everywhere. We got some super cute images!

It’s splash bath time…

After the cake was all finished we concluded the session with a splash bath. I love using Gaia lavender baby liquid, to create bubble for the splash bath. It’s an all natural brand with minimal toxins. So important for our little babies! Brayden had so much fun splashing around. He was loving all the bubbles and the attention. Full of giggles and laughter, we easily captured the sweetest photos of him!

Gold Coast QLD Baby Photographer | Jordi’s Cake Smash

The planning

I was discussing with Jordie’s Mama “Jaime”, about the vision she wanted for her baby’s cake smash session. But Jaime was all open to our creative flows. So we got brain storming about different themes and definitely kept coming back to minimalistic / neutral. The focus was all on Jordi!

The session

Dressed up in little striped overalls, Jordi had arrived at our studio. He was a little shy at first but did not take long to warm up at all. Jaime informed me that Jordi loves to listed to Doja Cat. So of course we had to put it on! Immediately he started bopping, clapping and dancing. Full of laughter and giggles. Jordi was so happy to get into the cake. Tasting and eating it. We got some extremely cute images of him!

Time for a splash bath…

After Jordi had finished up with the cake, we had organised a splash bath for him. He loved it and went wild! Splashing the whole studio down. His personality was contagious and made everyone laugh! It did not take long at all the capture him enjoying his bath.

It’s Oli’s Birthday!

We travelled down to Port Stevens to celebrate and capture our nephew “Oli’s” first birthday. This was an extra special photoshoot. As we missed out on capturing his newborn photos due to covid border closures. So we had to make up for lost time and organise a cake smash, of course…

The setup

Now I don’t normally travel for studio photography however, when given the opportunity the creative juices will flow. We decided to decorate Leisa’s (Oli’s mama, aka my sister) spare bedroom. They had just laid down new wooden flooring. Which was perfect for the set up! Adding in Oli’s favourite tonker truck, presents and balloons to finish off the decor. The cake was a chocolate mud cake decorated in rainbow dots. To add the final touches we placed a customised cake topper on top of the cake.

The smash itself

Of course we started the shoot with a classic milestone picture. But Oli wanted the cake straight away! Oli went ham on the cake and it was so cute! He literally picked the whole cake up and was smashing it on the floor. The funniest shoot to date. The cake was quite firm as it was a mud cake, so we gently cut a slice out for Oli to eat. He was nibbling on the slice like a little block of cheese. It was so cute to watch.

It’s always such a pleasure to be able to document the first year of a baby’s life. They honestly change so much and time goes to quickly. It truely is bitter sweet!

Dreamy Moon Photography Youtube Channel…

We have finally launched the Dreamy Moon Photography YouTube channel. Which will showcase all of the behind the scene videos from our photography shoots. From Newborn photography shoots, cake smash photography shoots to family and beyond! You will get a taste of some of our products and how we organise them for clients. And we can not forget about the best of all. The client reveals!

Filmed in both real time and a timelapse technique, with an overlay of songs. You will be able to become a part of the Dreamy Moon Photography community. The Youtube Channel is broken down into three sections for easy viewer usability. The first is the client reveal play list. Followed by the behind the scenes playlist. Concluded by the studio playlist. All three play lists are divisions of the type of videos we will showcase on our channel. The channel also has a community section tab. This is to allow for interaction with both viewers and clients.

To keep our branding consistent across all platforms. We decorated the YouTube channel art with our Dreamy Moon Photography logos. As for Thumbnails we decided on a minimalistic theme of images and a serif font in either cream, white or black. Our aim to is to keep the videos short and sweet. Under 5 minutes in duration, for quick time viewing.

We are so excited to expand this platform and continue creating content, to show case Dreamy Moon Photography!

What better way to celebrate than a cakesmash…

Baby Elijah’s first birthday is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate than a cakesmash! When Elijah’s mumma Sophie contacted us in regards to doing a cake smash, we got to planning immediately. Sophie expressed how she missed out on getting newborn photography or milestone photography photos done with Elijah. That it was important for them to capture his first birthday smashing a cake.

The session:

Sophie, Elijah’s and Nanny all arrived at the studio to capture some fun and candid birthday cake smash photos. The studio was decorated with a sheer white curtain draping in to add a touch of airy and whimsical feels. A natural handmade green garland hung on twinkle fairly lights. Embellished with a naked cake, topped with fresh baby’s breath flowers.

Elijah’s had a ball in the studio! Freshly walking he found himself running around, giggling and chasing balloons. When Elijah spotted the fluffy rug he immediately need to have it. Obsessed with the fluffy texture he cuddled and rolled on top of it. So we definitely had to bring it into the photography set up. It was too cute not to capture him adoring over it!

After a fun time smashing the cake and listening to bluey. It was time to bring out the splash bath and pack up the cake… Boy oh boy, did sweet baby Elijah’s love the splash bath. He was chuckling and popping all the bubbles. His smile was just contagious, he had all of us laughing!
