Where to begin, let’s start with a little about the studio and how it came about. Then we can talk all about the props, accessories, outfits and equipment available for use at the studio.

Dreamy Moon Photography originally began in nsw but 2 short years afterwards, we made the plunge to the Gold Coast. Burleigh Heads, in fact. We are now about to sign our 3rd year lease at our Burleigh Heads studio. Because we love the space so much and we know our clients do too!

The coastal inspired studio space is filled with wooden floors, marble features and natural rattan throughout the floor plan. Laid with floor to ceiling windows, it is the perfect space for natural light and studio photography. A full size kitchen, houses all the snacks and beverages, but is also the perfect space for additional storage.

Having both the studio backdrop set up and lifestyle “bedroom” set up. Gives us the ability to extend our creativities and give our clients exactly the experience they desire. Our dainty little waiting area is dual purpose for our viewing session. Of course we can’t forget to mention the hidden prop room! The space where we stall all the extra props and backdrops.

We have spent many years perfecting and evolving our style. A real blend between coastal bohemian and warm rustic essence. And…. Our props show case it! We love everything organic, bamboo and wooden. Oh and of course all the neutrals! But lately we have been exploring a little bit of colour here and there.

What do you wear?

You’re so excited, you have your session booked for your indoor or outdoor photography session. If you haven’t had photos taken in the past, this must be very new for you. Even slightly overwhelming. You not only have to organise yourself, but your partner, children and maybe family pet too! But don’t worry, Dreamy Moon Photography has you covered and has put together a full guide on what to wear to your next photography session. Family:

I’m starting off with the largest to organise and that is your family session clothing guide. The key here is to coordinate your colour pallet rather than being matchy, matchy. Pick a few tones that collaborate nicely and base your outfit around them. I will post a few example below of exactly what I’m talking about. Never underestimate the power of textures! Textures make for great visual appeal in your photos and when added in subtly, it can make the world of a difference.

What to avoid!

We want your photos to be timeless and of course this is just our suggestion that you can take with a grain of salt….But this is a few things we tell our clients to avoid wearing.

No logos, logos are distracting and can outdated become outdated quite quickly.

Avoid harsh patterns, this can sometimes be unflattering.

Now this is just our preference but avoid bold, bright colours.

Okay now that we’ve gotten that out of the way let’s move onto the babies!

You probably know by now that our main niche of photography are babies. Which is why we have a full client wardrobe to have you covered. But the same rules as above pretty much apply to our littlest humans too.

In today’s blog I’m going to talk about all of our favourite studio props!

Because who doesn’t love a good ol’ prop! Of course we have to start with the favourite and most requested prop. The rattan rectangle basket. In natural toned bamboo, this prop is the perfect size for a newborn or sitter. Used in both our newborn and cakesmash sessions. Another highly requested prop is the timeless moon prop! A hand built wooden box in the shape of a moon, painted creamy white. Perfect for minimalist or themed photo shoots. Used in both cake smash, milestone and newborn shoots. This prop is beautiful when paired with a textured wrap.

The classic woven basket is one of our favourite newborn props to use during our sessions. It is the perfect size for a little bean to be placed in so cosily. This prop was one of Dreamy Moon Photography’s original props and still stands classic with the change of time. This prop is amazing for anything and everything, really… It is super versatile and matches almost all themes.

Last but not least, the iconic wooden box! A beautiful chocolate colour. This box is great for sitters, cake smashes, newborns and milestone photos. You can get super creative and even turn this box upside down for older children to sit on or stack with decorations. The wooden box has been used for many different shoots, from Santa mini’s, siblings, newborns, cake smashes and even used with milestone sessions.

If you are new to studio photography and all the terms. Don’t worry we will fill you in. Firstly studio photography is based indoors with either windows or studio lighting. On a variety of backdrops or props.

Studio photography is the best! Now let me tell you why…

There is just something so magical about what you can create in a studio. The control over the environment allows for our photography team to be very intentional during our studio photography shoots. We are able to bring visions to life with the ability to adjust our lighting, backdrops, props and outfits. You will always be in a comfortable environment as we can control the temperature and always have snacks and beverages on hand.

In our personal opinion, a majority of photographers specialise in outdoor photography. Don’t get us wrong we absolutely love outdoor photography too and shoot outdoor on request. However we can kindly say that Dreamy Moon Photography has the skills to work with both studio and outdoor photography.

So wether you love a beautiful sunset or an intentionally setup studio shoot. Dreamy Moon Photography can deliver you an exceptional experience from start to finish. We will work alongside you to plan and organise your dream session. South Gold Coast Newborn Photographer | Tips for surviving the 4th Trimester

Congratulations mama!

You did it, you survived 3 trimesters of pregnancy and birthed your baby. But have you ever heard about the 4th trimester? A scientifically researched method that starts immediately after your baby is born and last for the first 12 weeks (the newborn phase). The 4th trimester is a time for your baby to not only physically but emotionally adjust to being on the outside world. They will eventually identify that mama and baby are not one but two separate things. This can be a challenging time for your newborn, however there are a few tips and tricks to help this transition.

Tips for baby

Swaddling your baby – in utero they are constantly warmed and secure, swaddling aims to mimic the womb. It will also help with the startle reflex so they don’t wake themselves up accidentally
Feeding on demand – if breastfeeding feeding on demand is an amazing way to help nourish your baby and make them feel comfortable and full.
White noise – this will help with the strange and sharp noises they are adjusting to earth side. White noise is an amazing tool that helps mimic sounds in the womb.
Skin to skin, there are so many amazing benefits to skin to skin such as calming your baby, releasing happy hormones and even regulating your baby’s temperature.
Waking up every two hour is normal in the 4th trimester. Your newborn is biological wired to have different sleep cycles than older babies. Read all about it here: Newborn Sleep

Tweed NSW Newborn Photography | Tips for a successful home birth

We love everything about birth, babies and beyond! But homebirth has a special place in our heart and we want to share all the tips for a successful homebirth.

First a little back story, in February we gave birth to our healthy baby girl in the presence of our doula safely at home. It was such an amazing, empowering and peaceful birth! There was nothing more empowering and magical than birthing on our own terms.

But back to what this blog is all about and that is all the helpful tips you need!

Okay it’s all about preparation and I’m talking about mental preparation. It is so important to go within and address any fears or concerns prior to going into labour. By releasing any blockages you’re truely surrendering to the experience.

Having great support is key!

A doula is an amazing emotional rock to have throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I honestly couldn’t of done it without both our doulas. They will hold your hand when your birth partner needs a breather. They will nurture and carry both the parents through this life changing transition.

Have tools on hand that will get you through the hard parts.

Affirmation cards
Combs or banksia sea pods for pain relief (acupressure)
Water for pain relief (shower or birth pool)
Nourishing food for early labour (to fuel you)
Birth ball
Essential oils
Practice deep breathing (for relaxation)
Hypno birthing audios
Scarf jiggling (robozo) for pain relief

Really work out what you will need during this time!

Have a birth plan and go with the flow. It’s great to have a guide but be open to whatever unfolds.

If you follow Dreamy Moon Photography on Instagram and Facebook, you will be familiar with the voting game ‘this or that’.

A fun bubbly voting game where we choose our favourite images from a session. To play the game you must select two images (ideally from the same scene). Upload them to your favourite platform with voting buttons or through the comment section. Wait and watch the votes roll in. You can also nominate your friends to do the challenge too.

We love playing this or that over on our Dreamy Moon Photography platforms

Engaging with our community is so important to us. Plus we always get comments about how everyone loves this game and the comparisons.

The first This or That image is of one of our favourite cake smash sessions. Miss Everly came in for a milestone, cake smash and splash bath shoot. She completely stole everyones hearts with her big blue eyes and contagious smile. Over on our instagram the votes were super close between the two comparisons. However the image of Everly standing, took the win! Our audience was completely smitten with that image.

Following the votes over on instagram, we posted a second image for this or that. Our classic newborn set up, the vote choices were between the basket prop or bottoms up. With our surprise people were absolutely loving the bottoms up pose. A super classic pose but yet timeless…

For the final this or that image. We uploaded another bottoms up pose (since everyone loved the previous) and a froggy. Now this was super close in votes 48-52! Froggy did however just take the lead and won overall. Such a fun game to see what everyone is loving at the moment!
