Gold Coast QLD Newborn Photography | Why we love studio photography

Gold Coast QLD Newborn Photography | Why we love studio photography

If you are new to studio photography and all the terms. Don’t worry we will fill you in. Firstly studio photography is based indoors with either windows or studio lighting. On a variety of backdrops or props.

Studio photography is the best! Now let me tell you why…

There is just something so magical about what you can create in a studio. The control over the environment allows for our photography team to be very intentional during our studio photography shoots. We are able to bring visions to life with the ability to adjust our lighting, backdrops, props and outfits. You will always be in a comfortable environment as we can control the temperature and always have snacks and beverages on hand.

In our personal opinion, a majority of photographers specialise in outdoor photography. Don’t get us wrong we absolutely love outdoor photography too and shoot outdoor on request. However we can kindly say that Dreamy Moon Photography has the skills to work with both studio and outdoor photography.

So wether you love a beautiful sunset or an intentionally setup studio shoot. Dreamy Moon Photography can deliver you an exceptional experience from start to finish. We will work alongside you to plan and organise your dream session. Once your session is finished, we will than organise a viewing appointment to select your favourite  images to be turned into artwork.

South Gold Coast Newborn Photographer | Tips for surviving the 4th Trimester

South Gold Coast Newborn Photographer | Tips for surviving the 4th Trimester

South Gold Coast Newborn Photographer | Tips for surviving the 4th Trimester

Congratulations mama!

You did it, you survived 3 trimesters of pregnancy and birthed your baby. But have you ever heard about the 4th trimester? A scientifically researched method that starts immediately after your baby is born and last for the first 12 weeks (the newborn phase). The 4th trimester is a time for your baby to not only physically but emotionally adjust to being on the outside world. They will eventually identify that mama and baby are not one but two separate things. This can be a challenging time for your newborn, however there are a few tips and tricks to help this transition.

Tips for baby

  • Swaddling your baby – in utero they are constantly warmed and secure, swaddling aims to mimic the womb. It will also help with the startle reflex so they don’t wake themselves up accidentally
  • Feeding on demand – if breastfeeding feeding on demand is an amazing way to help nourish your baby and make them feel comfortable and full.
  • White noise – this will help with the strange and sharp noises they are adjusting to earth side. White noise is an amazing tool that helps mimic sounds in the womb.
  • Skin to skin, there are so many amazing benefits to skin to skin such as calming your baby, releasing happy hormones and even regulating your baby’s temperature.
  • Waking up every two hour is normal in the 4th trimester. Your newborn is biological wired to have different sleep cycles than older babies. Read all about it here: Newborn Sleep

For mama

  • a tribe that will hold and nurture you
  • Nourishing and warming foods – now is the time to warm your womb.
  • Rest, rest, rest!
  • Sun light to soak in all the vitamin d

The first 40 days is an amazing book to reference postpartum needs.

Tweed NSW Newborn Photography | Tips for a successful home birth

Tweed NSW Newborn Photography | Tips for a successful home birth

Tweed NSW Newborn Photography | Tips for a successful home birth

We love everything about birth, babies and beyond! But homebirth has a special place in our heart and we want to share all the tips for a successful homebirth.

First a little back story, in February we gave birth to our healthy baby girl in the presence of our doula safely at home. It was such an amazing, empowering and peaceful birth! There was nothing more empowering and magical than birthing on our own terms.

But back to what this blog is all about and that is all the helpful tips you need!

Okay it’s all about preparation and I’m talking about mental preparation. It is so important to go within and address any fears or concerns prior to going into labour. By releasing any blockages you’re truely surrendering to the experience.

Having great support is key!

A doula is an amazing emotional rock to have throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I honestly couldn’t of done it without both our doulas. They will hold your hand when your birth partner needs a breather. They will nurture and carry both the parents through this life changing transition.

Have tools on hand that will get you through the hard parts.

  • Affirmation cards
  • Combs or banksia sea pods for pain relief (acupressure)
  • Water for pain relief (shower or birth pool)
  • Nourishing food for early labour (to fuel you)
  • Birth ball
  • Essential oils
  • Practice deep breathing (for relaxation)
  • Hypno birthing audios
  • Scarf jiggling  (robozo)  for pain relief

Really work out what you will need during this time!

Have a birth plan and go with the flow. It’s great to have a guide but be open to whatever unfolds.

Maternity Photographer Gold Coast QLD | This or That

If you follow Dreamy Moon Photography on Instagram and Facebook, you will be familiar with the voting game ‘this or that’.

A fun bubbly voting game where we choose our favourite images from a session. To play the game you must select two images (ideally from the same scene).  Upload them to your favourite platform with voting buttons or through the comment section. Wait and watch the votes roll in. You can also nominate your friends to do the challenge too.

Maternity Photographer Gold Coast QLD | This or That

We love playing this or that over on our Dreamy Moon Photography platforms

Engaging with our community is so important to us. Plus we always get comments about how everyone loves this game and the comparisons.

The first This or That image is of one of our favourite cake smash sessions. Miss Everly came in for a milestone, cake smash and splash bath shoot. She completely stole everyones hearts with her big blue eyes and contagious smile. Over on our instagram the votes were super close between the two comparisons. However the image of Everly standing, took the win! Our audience was completely smitten with that image.

Maternity Photographer Gold Coast QLD | This or That

Following the votes over on instagram, we posted a second image for this or that. Our classic newborn set up, the vote choices were between the basket prop or bottoms up. With our surprise people were absolutely loving the bottoms up pose. A super classic pose but yet timeless…

For the final this or that image. We uploaded another bottoms up pose (since everyone loved the previous) and a froggy. Now this was super close in votes 48-52! Froggy did however just take the lead and won overall. Such a fun game to see what everyone is loving at the moment!

Gold Coast QLD Newborn Photography | Why Homebirth

Gold Coast QLD Newborn Photography | Why Homebirth

Gold Coast QLD Newborn Photography | Why Homebirth

Homebirth!

An amazing, beautiful and empowering experience… Something that I wish all expecting mamas would consider. Of course know that wherever you birth does not matter if you feel safe to birth there.

Home birth is an incredible option to bring your baby into earth side. They will be birthed into the comfort of their own home, surrounded by their loved ones.

But let’s talk about the real nitty gritty benefits of home birthing.

Your home is full of yours and your baby’s microbiome. This means that you basically have an ecosystem of bacteria, fungal, viruses and germs that you, your family and baby are exposed to. Birthing your baby at home minimises the exposure to foreign germs.

When you choose to homebirth you are also minimising your risk to unnecessary intervention. Women who homebirth have a lower rate of 3rd and 4th degree tears. Have higher success rates for VBAC and more personalised care.

So why do women choose to home

Birth?

  • You have the ability to choose whatever positions you want to birth in.
  • Familiar surroundings
  • Previous hospital birth trauma
  • Desire for a natural birth
  • Choice with who is involved in your birth.
  • Minimising intervention

If home birth is something that speaks to you, there are plenty more resources to look into and find out more information such as HomeBirthAustralia.Org

Burleigh Heads QLD Newborn Photography | Why choose me?

Burleigh Heads QLD Newborn Photography | Why choose me?

Hello, I am Tiana the founder of Dreamy Moon Photography. Dreamy Moon Photography is based around creating unique experiences for our clients who want a trusted professional to guide them through their session.

Burleigh Heads QLD Newborn Photography | Why choose me?

Why Dreamy Moon Photography started:

Now I go into much more detail in my other blog pose “ What photography means to me”. But I will briefly explain how DMP became about.Having my first child inspired me to start DMP. I wanted to capture the endless moments and realised that I could do the same for other families. Photography was already a hobby of mine, but I wanted to learn the professional reigns.

Tiana’s Education:

Education and knowledge is the key to growth. I strongly believe in investing into yourself and after knowing that I wanted to turn photography into a career, I went down the education rabbit hole. It first started with a few courses through click love grow. This is amazing for setting you up for the foundations. But I knew in my heart that I really wanted to work with babies. With that in mind I did some specialised training with Sarah Scott, Natasha Galley, Emily Wilcokson and Meg Bitton.

At Dreamy Moon Photography, we are continually adding to our education. We strongly believe in investing into our experience each year. We are currently working with a mentor who is known internationally for their work. Creating a safe environment for our clients is number one priority and that coincides with correct training. Now if you also need want to get into the nitty gritty, I’ve also done several courses in Nutrition and Dietetics, Food science and Graphic design at Newcastle university. Which I guess shaped me to be who I am today.

Tiana’s experience:

I’ve been specialising in newborn photography for four years now. I love working with babies and have focused my education around that niche.

In the last two years we have started photographing weddings. Now this is a completely different style of photography and I’m all for it. We love being able to travel and capture the candid moments of someone’s special day.

So why choose me? Why choose Dreamy Moon Photography…

We love to keep it real and raw at DMP but we also strive to provide you with a one of a kind experience, that most other photographers do not offer. An experience that guides you through creating timeless memories with your loved ones. An experience that leaves you with heirloom art pieces to treasure for ever. Something that is stress free…

Burleigh Heads QLD Newborn Photography | Must have list for new mums

As a first time mum, you want to be so prepared of the arrival of your new bubba! We spend so much time planing, nesting and preparing to make sure we have everything we need for this new bubba. But it can be overwhelming when it comes to getting it all together.

Firstly let’s put a few things together for the first few weeks of postpartum because mama you have to look after your self too. Now I’m not your most conventional person. I love a great low-tox alternative. So be prepared to have some different options.

burleigh heads qld newborn photography mum and Bub lifestyle

For the mama…

Peri bottle – the Kmart sauce squirter is perfect for the job.

Yoni steaming herbs – add into peri bottle to aid with healing.

Slippery elm and olive oil paste- helps with tears or grazes.

Castor oil and heat pack – to warm to womb

Warming womb tinctures

Black sesame seed oil – rub on womb

Bonding herbal tincture – helps with mother baby connection

Congee, broths and stews – easy, nutritious postpartum meals.

Pads, pads, pads and more pads

Witch hazel peri spray – antibacterial spray

Bluey pads – to catch any bleeding

Haaka– help catch your breast milk

The first 40 days book – amazing postpartum resource. In fact I wrote a whole blog post about it

Okay now that we have mama sorted, let’s move on to baby.

A milk source – if you are choosing to breastfeed, perhaps consider some nipple balm or a pump. Alternatively if you choose to formula feed, you will have to get some bottles and a steriliser.

Something to catch the poop and wee – cloth nappies, disposable or even elimination communication. Our favourite style of cloth nappies are bare and boho. We also love the clean cloth nappy method for cleaning and sanitising your nappies. As for disposables. Tooshies by toms, rascal and friends and naty nappies are amazing natural brands.

A safe place to sleep. This could be a bassinet, cot or co sleeper.

A car seat. Hey we have to drive around, right?

Some warm clothes, zip onesies are a must!

Loads of cuddles!

Sometimes we over complicate what our baby really needs but I love to bring it back to the basics.

You’ve done it!

You’ve survived the first year of your baby’s life! The long nights, the cuddles the laughter and the tears. The mere heart attack that little baby can give you but ooh when you stare at them sleeping you hear skips a beat with so much love. It’s time to celebrate. Celebrate your parenting achievements, but also the celebration of your little baby turning one!

There is nothing better than to capture those first moments on camera

Their first birthday cake, exploring tasting and smashing. A cake smash is such a fantastic way to show case how big your bubba is but also how little they really are in comparison to the big world. Your baby will have the opportunity to explore and have a full sensory experience with their very first birthday cake.

We will capture some milestone moments in their little outfit. Showcasing their little personality. Afterwards a beautifully decorated cake will be placed in front of them. So they can go ham! Some baby’s love smashing into it whilst other simply dip their little finger in and explore the different textures.

After your little one has had the best time exploring their cake, we will swap out the cake for a bubbly splash bath! This is another opportunity to get some of the cutest little photos of your one year old baby! They can make a splashy mess and blow bubbles everywhere.

The best part…

The best part about doing a cake smash with Dreamy Moon Photography is we clean up all the mess and offer a full service experience

Korbin’s arrival

Chelsea is a long term friend of ours. When we found out she was expecting we knew we had to get together and organise a newborn photoshoot for her baby boy once he was here. Fast forward a little bit and Korbin made his arrival. Chelsea explained how her birth with Korbin didn’t go as planned. It was a highly intervention and stressful birth resulting in an episiotomy And vacuum delivery. However Chelsea is one of the strongest women we know and has walked away from her birth experience empowered and determined to make the next chapter of her life the best experience ever. Motherhood…

The planning

Chelsea let us have free reign with organising Korbin’s newborn shoot. We decided to use this opportunity as a creative session and meticulously planned out a studio lifestyle session. Think creams, whites and neutrals. With layered textures, beads and of course pampas grass. A sheer white curtain draped over the set.

burleigh heads qld newborn photography mum and Bub lifestyle

The session

Korbin did so well during his session, especially being a slightly older baby. He slept the entire time and loved being wrapped. He was wrapped in an oatmeal layer and a beige mohair bonnet to match. We photographed him on the bed, basket and in mamas arms. Chelsea did amazing during the session and looked stunning in her navy, floral dress.

A special moment captured between baby and mama. An everlasting bond…
