Tweed NSW Cake Smash Photographer | Client products have arrived!

Our favourite time of the month!!!

Client product delivery day. It’s delivery day and the delivery driver has just dispatched a bunch of client artwork.  It feels like Christmas on client delivery day and there is nothing better of a feeling than unboxing the products and seeing the reactions from the families who get to treasure these heirlooms.

Of course prior to our clients excitement, we typically shoot a few product photos of the art work and film a flip through too. Head over to our Dreamy Moon Photography YouTube channel to have a look through some of our latest client product reveals

Our YouTube channel is one of the many platforms where we love to show you all of the behind the scenes activities we get up to at the Dreamy Moon Photography studio. From client shoots, image reveals and all the ins and outs of the products we create. But if daily content is more your thing, than Instagram will be your best friend. We update our stories and content almost daily. Get a sneak peak into new props and day to day business shenanigans.

But let’s get back to what we are really talking about…. Client artwork! Each piece is exquisitely crafted to last a lifetime

I will be writing some more in depth blogs on each specific items. But in the mean time, let’s admire these beautiful artwork pieces!

Welcome to the studio

Welcome to our Burleigh Heads Newborn Photography studio. The heart of Dreamy Moon Photography. Where all the magic happens and memories come to life. South Gold Coast Newborn Photographer | welcome to the studio

Click here for a little tour:

Where to begin, let’s start with a little about the studio and how it came about. Then we can talk all about the props, accessories, outfits and equipment available for use at the studio.

Dreamy Moon Photography originally began in nsw but 2 short years afterwards, we made the plunge to the Gold Coast. Burleigh Heads, in fact. We are now about to sign our 3rd year lease at our Burleigh Heads studio. Because we love the space so much and we know our clients do too!

The coastal inspired studio space is filled with wooden floors, marble features and natural rattan throughout the floor plan. Laid with floor to ceiling windows, it is the perfect space for natural light and studio photography. A full size kitchen, houses all the snacks and beverages, but is also the perfect space for additional storage.

Having both the studio backdrop set up and lifestyle “bedroom” set up. Gives us the ability to extend our creativities and give our clients exactly the experience they desire. Our dainty little waiting area is dual purpose for our viewing session. Of course we can’t forget to mention the hidden prop room! The space where we stall all the extra props and backdrops.

We have spent many years perfecting and evolving our style. A real blend between coastal bohemian and warm rustic essence.  And…. Our props show case it! We love everything organic, bamboo and wooden. Oh and of course all the neutrals! But lately we have been exploring a little bit of colour here and there.

Tweed NSW Newborn Photographer | What to wear to your session

What do you wear?

You’re so excited, you have your session booked for your indoor or outdoor photography session. If you haven’t had photos taken in the past, this must be very new for you. Even slightly overwhelming. You not only have to organise yourself, but your partner, children and maybe family pet too! But don’t worry, Dreamy Moon Photography has you covered and has put together a full guide on what to wear to your next photography session.  Tweed NSW Newborn Photographer | What to wear to your session

Family:

I’m starting off with the largest to organise and that is your family session clothing guide. The key here is to coordinate your colour pallet rather than being matchy, matchy. Pick a few tones that collaborate nicely and base your outfit around them. I will post a few example below of exactly what I’m talking about. Never underestimate the power of textures! Textures make for great visual appeal in your photos and when added in subtly, it can make the world of a difference.

What to avoid!

We want your photos to be timeless and of course this is just our suggestion that you can take with a grain of salt….But this is a few things we tell our clients to avoid wearing.

No logos, logos are distracting and can outdated become outdated quite quickly.

Avoid harsh patterns, this can sometimes be unflattering.

Now this is just our preference but avoid bold, bright colours.

Okay now that we’ve gotten that out of the way let’s move onto the babies!

You probably know by now that our main niche of photography are babies. Which is why we have a full client wardrobe to have you covered. But the same rules as above pretty much apply to our littlest humans too.

South Gold Coast Newborn Photographer | Tips for surviving the 4th Trimester

South Gold Coast Newborn Photographer | Tips for surviving the 4th Trimester

Congratulations mama!

You did it, you survived 3 trimesters of pregnancy and birthed your baby. But have you ever heard about the 4th trimester? A scientifically researched method that starts immediately after your baby is born and last for the first 12 weeks (the newborn phase). The 4th trimester is a time for your baby to not only physically but emotionally adjust to being on the outside world. They will eventually identify that mama and baby are not one but two separate things. This can be a challenging time for your newborn, however there are a few tips and tricks to help this transition.

Tips for baby

  • Swaddling your baby – in utero they are constantly warmed and secure, swaddling aims to mimic the womb. It will also help with the startle reflex so they don’t wake themselves up accidentally
  • Feeding on demand – if breastfeeding feeding on demand is an amazing way to help nourish your baby and make them feel comfortable and full.
  • White noise – this will help with the strange and sharp noises they are adjusting to earth side. White noise is an amazing tool that helps mimic sounds in the womb.
  • Skin to skin, there are so many amazing benefits to skin to skin such as calming your baby, releasing happy hormones and even regulating your baby’s temperature.
  • Waking up every two hour is normal in the 4th trimester. Your newborn is biological wired to have different sleep cycles than older babies. Read all about it here: Newborn Sleep

For mama

  • a tribe that will hold and nurture you
  • Nourishing and warming foods – now is the time to warm your womb.
  • Rest, rest, rest!
  • Sun light to soak in all the vitamin d

The first 40 days is an amazing book to reference postpartum needs.

Tweed NSW Newborn Photography | Tips for a successful home birth

Tweed NSW Newborn Photography | Tips for a successful home birth

Tweed NSW Newborn Photography | Tips for a successful home birth

We love everything about birth, babies and beyond! But homebirth has a special place in our heart and we want to share all the tips for a successful homebirth.

First a little back story, in February we gave birth to our healthy baby girl in the presence of our doula safely at home. It was such an amazing, empowering and peaceful birth! There was nothing more empowering and magical than birthing on our own terms.

But back to what this blog is all about and that is all the helpful tips you need!

Okay it’s all about preparation and I’m talking about mental preparation. It is so important to go within and address any fears or concerns prior to going into labour. By releasing any blockages you’re truely surrendering to the experience.

Having great support is key!

A doula is an amazing emotional rock to have throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I honestly couldn’t of done it without both our doulas. They will hold your hand when your birth partner needs a breather. They will nurture and carry both the parents through this life changing transition.

Have tools on hand that will get you through the hard parts.

  • Affirmation cards
  • Combs or banksia sea pods for pain relief (acupressure)
  • Water for pain relief (shower or birth pool)
  • Nourishing food for early labour (to fuel you)
  • Birth ball
  • Essential oils
  • Practice deep breathing (for relaxation)
  • Hypno birthing audios
  • Scarf jiggling  (robozo)  for pain relief

Really work out what you will need during this time!

Have a birth plan and go with the flow. It’s great to have a guide but be open to whatever unfolds.

Newborn Photography Gold Coast QLD | Belly to Baby

Okay, you just got that positive pregnancy test and a million emotions and scenarios are running through your head. You want to plan everything revolving your pregnancy and baby.

Firstly mama, I feel you. I have been there too! My suggestion is to first process your emotions and than write a list “haha”. Of course we should probably tell our partner too.  If photography is something you value. Than it will be so important for you to capture your growing bump and eventually little baby.

Gold Coast QLD Newborn Photography | Why Homebirth

Gold Coast QLD Newborn Photography | Why Homebirth

Gold Coast QLD Newborn Photography | Why Homebirth

Homebirth!

An amazing, beautiful and empowering experience… Something that I wish all expecting mamas would consider. Of course know that wherever you birth does not matter if you feel safe to birth there.

Home birth is an incredible option to bring your baby into earth side. They will be birthed into the comfort of their own home, surrounded by their loved ones.

But let’s talk about the real nitty gritty benefits of home birthing.

Your home is full of yours and your baby’s microbiome. This means that you basically have an ecosystem of bacteria, fungal, viruses and germs that you, your family and baby are exposed to. Birthing your baby at home minimises the exposure to foreign germs.

When you choose to homebirth you are also minimising your risk to unnecessary intervention. Women who homebirth have a lower rate of 3rd and 4th degree tears. Have higher success rates for VBAC and more personalised care.

So why do women choose to home

Birth?

  • You have the ability to choose whatever positions you want to birth in.
  • Familiar surroundings
  • Previous hospital birth trauma
  • Desire for a natural birth
  • Choice with who is involved in your birth.
  • Minimising intervention

If home birth is something that speaks to you, there are plenty more resources to look into and find out more information such as HomeBirthAustralia.Org

Burleigh Heads QLD Newborn Photography | Must have list for new mums

Burleigh Heads QLD Newborn Photography | Must have list for new mums

As a first time mum, you want to be so prepared of the arrival of your new bubba! We spend so much time planing, nesting and preparing to make sure we have everything we need for this new bubba. But it can be overwhelming when it comes to getting it all together.

Firstly let’s put a few things together for the first few weeks of postpartum because mama you have to look after your self too. Now I’m not your most conventional person. I love a great low-tox alternative. So be prepared to have some different options.

burleigh heads qld newborn photography mum and Bub lifestyle

For the mama…

Peri bottle – the Kmart sauce squirter is perfect for the job.

Yoni steaming herbs – add into peri bottle to aid with healing.

Slippery elm and olive oil paste- helps with tears or grazes.

Castor oil and heat pack – to warm to womb

Warming womb tinctures

Black sesame seed oil – rub on womb

Bonding herbal tincture – helps with mother baby connection

Congee, broths and stews – easy, nutritious postpartum meals.

Pads, pads, pads and more pads

Witch hazel peri spray – antibacterial spray

Bluey pads – to catch any bleeding

Haaka– help catch your breast milk

The first 40 days book – amazing postpartum resource. In fact I wrote a whole blog post about it

Okay now that we have mama sorted, let’s move on to baby.

A milk source – if you are choosing to breastfeed, perhaps consider some nipple balm or a pump. Alternatively if you choose to formula feed, you will have to get some bottles and a steriliser.

Something to catch the poop and wee – cloth nappies, disposable or even elimination communication. Our favourite style of cloth nappies are bare and boho. We also love the clean cloth nappy method for cleaning and sanitising your nappies. As for disposables. Tooshies by toms, rascal and friends and naty nappies are amazing natural brands.

A safe place to sleep. This could be a bassinet, cot or co sleeper.

A car seat. Hey we have to drive around, right?

Some warm clothes, zip onesies are a must!

Loads of cuddles!

Sometimes we over complicate what our baby really needs but I love to bring it back to the basics.

Tweed NSW Newborn Photography | Everly’s Cake Smash

Tweed NSW Newborn Photography | Everly's Cake Smash

Tweed NSW Newborn Photography | Everly’s Cake Smash

The Planning…

When Everly’s mama got into contact with me and discussed that she wanted to do a shoot for Everly’s first birthday, I thought boho vintage vibes immediately. Little gingham outfits, bonnets and dried flowers. Of course in a neutral colour pallet. Think peaches and creams… We got to planning straight away. I sent Through Renee (Everly’s mama) a collage of the inspiration that I pulled together. I love doing this for clients. As it can give a visual representation of the creative flows for the session.

The session

Everly did amazing during her cake smash session. She was so happy and bubbly. Lots of laughter echoed throughout the photography studio. She had the biggest blue eyes and most gorgeous little smile. Firstly we started with milestone portraits. She was dancing, posing and clapping her little hands. Everly was so interactive and confident in front of the camera. She is a real natural. Followed by the cake smash Itself. The cake was a white naked cake, dairy free as Everly has a dairy intolerance.  We love being an all inclusive studio at Dreamy Moon Photography. We want to ensure every baby has an opportunity to celebrate with a cake smash! After the cake smash itself, Everly wrapped up her session with a splash bath.

Stress free for the parents!

Parents always tell me how much they love coming to Dreamy Moon Photography as it is truely a stress free experience. We provide the planning, decor, outfits, backdrops and splash bath. We also clean up all the mess so you can avoid any stress and enjoy the rest of your day after the session.
