Welcoming a new baby into the world is a momentous occasion, and capturing those early days is something truly special. We had the joy of photographing baby Esther in a serene newborn photoshoot that beautifully combined earthy rainbow and minimalistic themes.

Embracing Earthy Tones

For Esther’s photoshoot, we wanted to create an environment that felt warm, inviting, and grounded. Earthy tones—think soft browns, and gentle terracotta—set the stage for a calming atmosphere. These colours not only complement Esther’s natural beauty but also evoke a sense of peace and tranquility, reflecting the warmth of her new family life.

The Magic of Minimalism

Minimalism was at the heart of this shoot. By keeping props and backgrounds simple, we allowed Esther to take center stage. The clean lines and uncluttered spaces let her delicate features shine through, creating timeless images that focus on the pure essence of her newborn spirit. It’s hard to believe that a whole year has flown by since Arcadia graced us with her presence! To celebrate this momentous occasion. We embraced a delightful theme: “Arcadia in Onederland.” With pastel colours and vintage vibes. This cake smash session was nothing short of magical.

A Dreamy Theme

The “Onederland” theme perfectly captures the whimsy of childhood. Blending elements of fantasy with the joy of turning one. We incorporated soft pastel colours—think blush pinks, mint greens, and gentle lilacs—to create a dreamy backdrop that exudes warmth and joy. Vintage decor, including charming floral arrangements and whimsical props, added an enchanting touch that truly made the session feel like a fairytale.

Miami QLD Newborn Photographer | Baby Grace

Paige messaged me in regard to scheduling a newborn photography session for her first baby girl, Grace. Grace was born with an Omphalocele. This can occur when a baby’s abdominal organs are pushed through their umbilical cord. A rare conditions that can be both minor or serious. Grace thankfully was only affected minimally and did not require surgery. Her obstetric medical team handled the issue with ease.

Firstly Dreamy Moon Photography is specifically trained to handle issues that arise with newborns at birth. Common injuries such as Omphalocele, brachial plexus palsy, caput saccidaneum, bone fractures, perinatal asphyxia etc…

Secondly, we will always accomodate our session around your baby if they have experienced a birth injury.

The session

During our session had to accommodate for baby Grace’s abdominal area as it had dressing on it from her procedure and was tender and sore. We avoided any poses on her tummy and stuck with wrapped poses in the props and side lying poses on the posing bed.

Finally focusing on the family component, we captured some amazing breastfeeding imaged of Paige and baby Grace. Solo parent images and family images of the three of them!

We can not wait to see what images Paige and her hubby select from baby Grace’s Newborn and Family Session… Stay tuned!

Surviving a Family Photoshoot

It’s that time of the year again when you need to update your family photos. You may be looking forward to it or you might be feeling totally overwhelmed about where to even begin.

We hope that’s not the case if you decide to book with Dreamy Moon Photography as we strive to take the pressures out of planning and organising your dream shoot.

But we also know what it’s like to juggle multiple kiddos and get them to all be happy on the day.

Tips!

So here is a few survival tips that we recommend to ensure your family photoshoot runs as smoothly as possible!

Work with a professional photographer – this will honestly make the world of a difference if you are working with a professional as they will have a streamline work flow and provide you helpful things such as detailed dress guides and instructions for your session. A professional photographer will keep your shoot concise and know how to manage situations where kiddos are a little overwhelmed.
Book at least 1-2 months in advance. This will give you plenty of time to work out a location with your photographer, outfits and hair & makeup
Arrive at your session 30 minutes early. Allowing you time to find a car spot. Fix up any last minute outfit dilemmas. Meet your photographer. And go into your shoot stress free!
Lastly enjoy this moment. It’s meant to be fun not stressful. Your mood will truely reflect in the photos.

Who doesn’t love a themed photo session. Whether it’s be valentines days, Easter , st Patrick’s day, Halloween or Christmas. Themed photo shoots are the perfect way to sneak a milestone session into the year.

Generally run a mini session, themed photos allow you to get a taste of the Dream Moon Photography experience.

If you have never experienced a themed session or a mini session. They generally are shorter in comparison to full private session. Most themed sessions are ran with back to back bookings and the same set up. They are generally quicker and most of the time offered as a discount.

Normally you choose a set collection package instead of the individual tailored collections.

A fun way to get a taste of Dreamy Moon Photography. They are great if you have young kids that love structure. But sometimes a longer private session might be better if you have kiddos that are shy or take a little bit longer to warm up!

Ever tried to photograph your own children and the outcome just isn’t the same! Yep I even have days like that too!

But hopefully with this guide you will be able to set yourself up for the best chance of snapping some beautiful candid photos. Photograph your children in the moment. Candid photos are the best! It’s literally the most stress free what to capture memories.
But if you love a bit more of a theme or you have a vision in mind and want to do a little set up.. plan it out first!
Take photos of your children after they have had food and a sleep. All their needs are met and they are in their happiest state
Use bubbles!

It was time for another first birthday shenanigan!

We love first birthdays at Dreamy Moon Photography! Because that means it’s cake smash time for all the newly one year olds that come visit us at the studio…

The sweetest little boy, Oliver came in for his first birthday cake smash session. Malin his mum, got in touch with the studio to organise a green, blue and neutral session for Ollies first birthday.

With intentional planning we came up with the perfect set up! Several helium balloons floating in the back ground both blue and green. The little rattan chair for a milestone session. A very tall mini naked cake to be smashed! And lastly two outfit choices, green and neutral.

When the day of the shoot arrived, Ollie came through and did amazing! Having his sister join in on the milestone part of the session. We captured some timeless memories of them together! Then it was time for cake! Ollie wasn’t quite sure what to do with the cake, so we cut him off a slice to eat. Wrapping the session up with a splash bath!
