Congratulations mama, you’ve made it this far in your pregnancy. Surviving the first trimester sickness, second trimester glow and now you are in the final crunch of the third trimester. The home stretch! And it’s time to celebrate, with a beautiful maternity photoshoot to capture and preserved these everlasting memories of your pregnancy.

In today blog I am going to share with you all the tips and tricks that we tell our maternity clients at Dreamy Moon Photography to best prepare for their maternity shoot.

Tips and Tricks

Book your photographer early 2-3 months is a great amount of time. This will ensure that you get to be photographed by your dream photographer who may book out quickly! Your photographer should be very accommodating if you need to reschedule or cancel if anything arises.
Plan out with your photographer exactly what vibe you’re going for. Is it studio or outdoor photography? Neutrals or lots of colours… Do you want solo shots or with your partner and other children. This will ensure that you get the best outcome of the day.
If you’re photographer doesn’t provide a client closet. Put together some outfits and show your photographer to get a professional opinion. At Dreamy Moon Photography we have a range of maternity outfits and a dress guide if you would like to put your own outfit together.
Mama this is the time for you! Get pampered, we suggest getting your hair and makeup professionally done which we can provide in our studio. This will just take any pressure off you. It will allow you to truely relax and enjoy your shoot. I know that pregnancy can make you feel a little bit your self and we want you to feel as beautiful as possible!
And last but certainly not least! Have fun, relax and enjoy the shoot. Trust your photographer they will only capture the best angles and really make you feel like a star on the day. You’re creating beautiful moments and soon enough you will meet your baby.

This previous weekend, some of our Christmas Mini families came into the studio to view and select their favourite images. Turning them into Albums, Prints, Folio Boxes and so much more… To create timeless memories for years to come.

We all had so much fun creating everlasting memories of Christmas 2022. The children were so excited once they saw the warm lights, aspen Christmas trees and all the festive decorations!

Each family came in for their mini session, where we spent 10-15 minutes capturing all the joys and laughter. Ages ranged from 3 months old to 8 years old and of course some of the parents jumped ion for photos too. We had bubbles and Christmas music playing and at the end the kiddos received a special Dreamy Moon Photography gift bag. Their faces lit up when the saw the little pressie.

Best Newborn Photographer on the Gold Coast | Questions you should be asking your Photographer

When choosing a photographer to photograph your newborn baby it is so important to choose someone who is correctly qualified for the job! The last thing you want is someone inexperienced handling and potentially harming your newborn baby! So in today’s blog post I’m am putting together a bunch of questions you can ask your potential future photographer to assure they are the best person for the job! And if in doubt, book in with Dreamy Moon Photography because we have you covered!

Question to ask…

What is your qualifications when it comes to photography. (Is this photographer self taught or do they have qualifications or mentoring, under their belt).
Do they hold a first aid certificate, (we love working with tiny hearts education!).
Do they hold a WWCC, ABN etc? (This will really help differentiate amateur to professionals).
Have you got a studio with flash lighting or do you work with natural light?
Are you a lifestyle newborn photographer or do you specialise in newborn posing portraiture?
Do you include a client wardrobe, props and accessories?

By asking these questions or researching your photographer thoroughly you will be able to distinguish between a qualified, trained photographer who is experienced in their field against someone who is just starting out with little experience.

Price is also a good indicator whether or not you’re working with a fully qualified newborn photographer. If they have years of experience, training, all the equipment, accessories, props and everything else that goes into running a business. Then it is expected that their price will reflect that. Rather then someone who is just starting out offering super cheap sessions!

It can be overwhelming for everyone when it comes to the day of family photos. Especially for toddlers and young children. But here at Dreamy Moon Photography, our aim is to create the smoothest experience for you and your family. So here are a few of our favourite tips and ticks to creating an easy photoshoot! Tips

The best thing you can start with is gently preparing and building up excitement for your toddler. Explain to them that you’re going to get pictures taken. Let them play with a toy camera or a real old one if you have that on hand. Get them involved! This will help build up anticipation and excitement and give your toddler an element of control and security.
We suggest planing something fun to do after the shoot, for example getting an ice cream. This helps those young children who don’t really want to participate have something to look forward to, because let’s face it. Everybody loves ice cream (we recommend the cream at donut time in Burleigh)!
Now we definitely have a few studio tricks up our sleeve and that is setting up a fun bubbly atmosphere. Here at Dreamy Moon we love playing your Child’s favourite music. Getting the bubbles out and even our little squeaky to that seems to make all the kiddos laugh!
Finally our biggest tip is to stay calm and surrender to the outcome. Children are their own individual autonomous beings. Sometimes truely and autheicallyl capturing the moment makes for the best photos to cherish and look back on! We love a good candid picture over here, something that documents the phase of life that you’re in.

The best part

Ahhh! Where to begin, where to begin… Can I just sum up this blog and say the whole thing. 😂

Just kidding. Of course we will get into the nitty gritty!

There are so many avenues I can go with this but let’s start off with the most important!

There is nothing, and I mean nothing! More special than creating timeless memories for people to cherish. And without getting to cumbersome, those memories that I’ve captured are especially special when there is significance behind them. Such as a family member passing, rainbow baby, capturing love! A new baby even!

Those meaningful relationships

When it’s time to choose the images with our clients and they’re balling their eyes out from love and joy, that! Is a feeling that I just can’t explain.

It’s so much more than snapping pictures, it’s building meaningful relationships with people. Being apart of their life story and adding genuine meaning to them!

Photography is so much more than the art, it’s the service and that is something really special.

I’m am so honoured and blessed to be in this industry and create connections. Walk along side families and capture heirloom art pieces to be handed down for generations to come!

Miami QLD Newborn Photographer | Arnhem & Theo’s Christmas Mini

The session

Arnhem and Theo love getting photos taken, well Theo more than Arnhem…. But you know how temperamental babies can be. One minute they are all for the photos and the next they need their mama and dada. But that is why investing into an experienced baby photographer is key.

I can guarantee that we can turn any sour situation into timeless captured moments of your little one!

The outfits

For Arnhem and Theo’s shoot they wore neutral complimentary outfits. Arnhem was dressed in a plain white, ribbed romper paired with a muted pink bow and an oatmeal bonnet which we switched up in the middle of the shoot.

As for Theodore, he wore light blue jeans and an oatmeal linen long sleeved shirt. Of course he wanted to throw a bit of personality into the shoot, as five year olds do. So we accessorised with his favourite green sunglasses.

The little moments

Theo is always so happy to get photos taken. He is always asking to be in front of the camera and poses so well. From contagious smiles to the cheekiest expressions.

Arnhem took a little while to warm up. She wasn’t happy at first but after a quick little milk break she was ready to jump in and pose for the photos.

Arnhem is just starting to sit so we popped her in the sleigh with Theo behind and then on her tummy for some floor shots.

The photoshoot was so fun and the memories are truly timeless and everlasting!

And I know that sometimes budget can be an issue and can dictate the over decision but most experienced photographers do offer payment plans and if you book in early, you will have plenty of time to pay the shoot off.

Tweed Nsw Cake Smash Client Reveal Day | Courtney

There is nothing we love more than seeing the reaction of our clients face when they see their precious babies printed and crafted into heirloom artwork!

It was client reveal day and Courtney came into the studio to collect her beautiful folio box. We did a full reveal video on the folio box and all the detail from pearlescent paper to milk linen colouring.

But back to the reveal of course. Courtney absolutely loved seeing the folio box in person for the first time. She was completely smitten by how precious her baby looked! She ever couldn’t believe how much his changed in just a few weeks.

We had the please of capturing Courtney’s reaction on camera!

Yay! Another client reveal!

Recently we had the opportunity to showcase one of our favourite studio albums. Teodora’s cakesmash album is a stunning all white minimalistic album that captured the most precious smiles!

Liz and her husband are local gymnastics coaches, based in Ashmore. It really shows through Teodora’s little personality too. She was so confident and easy going.

When it was time for Liz to pick up her album she was absolutely in love with the results. We are so blessed to work with the most amazing clients and love watching them see their artwork for the first time!

Let’s play another round! Burleigh Heads Baby Photographer | This or That

This or That, a popular and interactive game over on our Dreamy Moon Photography Instagram page.

If you haven’t heard of this game. It’s where you select your favourite image or prop/ outfit in the case of today. We generally do a poll over on Instagram and boy was it close with some of them competing images. However for the sake of today’s blog, you can just comment down below, what your favourite is.

Round rattan flower basket versus the rectangular rattan basket

Okay starting with the first, and that was the round rattan flower basket versus the rectangular rattan basket. Both amazing props for newborn and sitters. But oh my goodness I did not expect results like this! Everyone love, love, loved that round flower basket. It got 100% of the votes. The rectangular basket (which is my favourite by the way), did not have a chance.

Client Wardrobe

The second this and that was from our client wardrobe. Two pieces that are used for cake smashes. The first clothing was a pair of sage overalls and the second a little lace onesie. Everyone ended up loving the lace onesie! Winning with a vote of 67-33%. I love both these pieces and think they photograph both really well so I’m fence sitting for this one!

The moon prop versus the cane pram

Okay and the last this and that which was so close guys! When I checked it was 50/50! But there had to be a winner. Everyone loved the moon prop, this prop is amazing for cake smashes. However the cane pram took the votes in the end. I don’t know what it is about a little vintage pram. But you all loved it in the end! It stole all the votes by 64%.
