I know we live in a digital world but there is nothing more timeless than tangible memories of your family!

This blog is just touching the tip of endless options that are available. Of course some of these are our favourites and you can always select them when you select your images at your Dreamy Moon photography viewing appointment.

1-5… Go!

Floating framed canvases. These are stunning! A timeless way to display your family. Floating framed canvases are a modern alternative to standard canvases. They are wrapped and mounted in a stunning oak wooden frame, creating a modern but timeless look.
Folio boxes! If you haven’t heard of a folio box, you are missing out! Also known as a deconstructed album. These boxes house your stunning matted prints that can be switched out and put on display.
Matted prints, a luxury thick print. If you love having 4×6 or 5×7. These are the perfect option to luxe up the way you display your photos. These are thicker than card and will not bend when you are viewing them. They still fit into traditional photo albums but can also be displayed In glass, linen or wooden boxes.
Customised albums! One of Dreamy Moons best selling products. They are simply stunning and can also be printed in acrylic to really vamp up the display.
Accordion albums are a precious and fun way to display a collection of your favourite images. These are perfect for nurseries or bookshelves.

The day of the Christmas Mini Markets:

We had so much fun photographing everyone’s Christmas minis at Hide and Seek children’s markets. It was so lovely meeting all of the children and their families and of course making incredible memories to finish up 2022.

The day started quite early at 6:30 but gave the Dreamy Moon Team plenty of time to set up and make everything perfect to start taking pictures at 8:00.

We have a variety of families come through and get their Christmas pictures taken. Enjoying use of our Christmas client closet.

Our first clients were absolutely adorable! Little cousins all dressed up in their Christmas outfits. Once’s warmed up they were full of little giggles. We got the sweetest little family photos of them! All dressed up in their little cohesive outfits was big brother Cooper and his baby sister Milly. Capturing the biggest smiles!

We photographed the most sweetest little siblings. Dressed in the most beautiful maroon Christmas dress and the little crochet baby onesie from our client closet. Florence and her brother Ezy were making every swoon with their cute expressions!

Getting out and meeting the community is always such a pleasure and we can’t wait to do it again in December!

Cake smashes are so fun!

There is just something so magical about planing, decorating and creating first birthday magic.

Today’s blog is a little different. I thought it would be a different perspective to share with you some of the behind the scenes process of organising a cake smash.

Of course it starts with the booking process. Once all booked in we start the planning. We love involving our clients in the planing process and have a huge selection of props and outfits that you can choose from in our preparation guide. Alternatively you can always leave the creative process up to us, if it’s not really your thing or you love a surprise!

Next is the fun part

Our team will go out into the field and organise anything that needs external planning such as the cake, balloons, outfits or any particular decor.

Cake decorating is one of the things that we also do in house and love creating unique naked cakes for each set up. Some have drives florals others gold flakes or other amazing designs! And of course the set up, putting everything together and intentionally adding in little details to really create that magic!

Finally the cake smash itself. Capturing those first memories of tasting cake (mostly for the first time) is so precious! The giggles and laughter. The toes between the cake slices and the messy little hands!

In today’s blog I wanted to go through some of our most popular questions we get asked and answer them in detail for you. That way you will always have this blog to refer back to. But if in doubt, ask about…!

Q. Are photos included in your session fee?

A. Our session fee includes access to our client closet, props, accessories, backdrop, studio space/ destination travel, administration, your viewing appointment and photographers creative fee. Prints and images are sold separately.

Q. How long do sessions go for?

A. It totally depends on the session. Our newborn sessions are our longest sessions due to the nature of them, ranging from 2-3 hours. Most other sessions that we offer range from 45-1 hour long.

Q. Do you offer digital only packages?

A. We definitely do, but most of our clients end up falling in love with the prints and products (which include a matching digital copy anyway).

Q. Is your pricing negotiable?

A. Our pricing is a reflection to our cost of running a small business. We set our prices accordingly and they are not negotiable. However we run an amazing referral program where you have the chance to get $100 off your prints and packages!

Q. Do we get to customise our collections?

A. Yes! They are completely tailored to your wants and needs. You can add images on to your collections or choose all al la carte.

Q. Do you offer payment plans?

A. We definitely do. We offer both payment plans and afterpay!

Q. Can we choose the setup/ decor for our session?

A. Of course, we love having your in put and can definitely customise your session to the theme you want!

Isn’t it so exciting when you book a photoshoot! There is so much creative freedom you get when you book in with Dreamy Moon Photography. From a huge variety of outfits to select from our client closet. To backdrops, accessories and of course props.

You get to completely tailor your photoshoot experience with the guidance and expertise of our team. So what to consider when you do get the chance to choose your props. Of course we will guide you along the process but here is a list of tips to help you also decide.

Choosing your props

Theme, are you going minimal, rustic, boho, lots of decor, different colours etc.
What type of session are you doing. Some props are more appropriate for newborns whilst others are more appropriate for older toddlers. Your photographer will give great suggestions!
How big is your little one, stream lining off the previous point… it’s important to discuss the size of your little one with your photographer as the will really narrow down the best prop fit.

Alternatively if choosing your favourite prop is a little overwhelming you can always leave the creative reigns up to your photographer. But it is also nice to have some in put too.

We are constantly updating our prop selection at Dreamy Moon Photography. When you book in you will be sent a guide where you can select your favourite props, outfits and accessories!

Burleigh Heads QLD Newborn Photography | November Haul

We love a good monthly haul here at Dreamy Moon Photography. Of course we have to share with you what we picked up for the studio this month! Firstly, if you can not tell from the pictures by now, this theme is very Christmas orientated! Tis’ the season to get into all the reds, greens, golds and festive colours! And we just couldn’t help ourselves with some of these cute Christmas outfits!

The Outfits!

The first outfit we picked up is a gorgeous red and white pin striped ruffled little romper by Bencer and Hazelnut. Which can be paired with a white ruffled under shirt. Or something with a saying, for example ‘ Baby’s first Christmas’…. This piece is going to photography so beautifully on your little ones! It can also be used for both Christmas and festivities, but also a cake smash session if you love the colour red or vintage look.

Next we picked up a little white linen ruffle sleeved romper from one of our favourite baby boutiques, two darlings.. This romper is absolutely gorgeous and such a versatile piece being all white. This romper can be used for the festivities, but also family sessions, sibling sessions, milestone sessions and of course cake smashes. It also has and adjustable back which will accomodate for a variety of sizes between 00-1.

To add to the festivities, our recent purchase was a sibling plaid Christmas set. A little baby romper and a matching big brother shirt & shorts set. This set is absolutely adorable and will be perfect for Christmas Sessions!

There is a very large spectrum of quality and price ranges when it comes to photography and more specifically Newborn photography. Have you ever wondered why that is when every other industry is more consistent with their prices and standards. Industry standards

Firstly lets talk about the industry, as this will give you a bit of a foundation into the way photographers choose their pricing models.

As there are no regulations and pre qualifications to get into photography. It is actually a really easy business to just start. You can simply, create a Facebook business page and literally start charging clients. But that does not mean you can run a sustainable and legitimate business! These amateur photographers who are charging very cheap sessions and are just starting out. Most likely have very little to know experience or skills when it comes to handling your newborn. Which can be a major risk to your baby’s safety.

When you choose an experienced and established photography business, you are paying for a specialist. You are also paying for guaranteed safety and consistency in quality.

Arnhem-Sol’s milestone session

Recently we captured Arnhem-Sol’s milestone pictures. She was so enthusiastic and bubbly during the shoot. So many giggles and activity going on. We did two outfit changes. Firstly she wore a little gingham romper that showed all her rolls off! The second outfit was a two darlings onesie in the colour mint. I really feel like green is her colour and always try to dress her in that.

So you may recognise our brand as predominantly studio photography. But we love a great outdoor photoshoot from time to time and have plenty of experience and tips to share!

So before we get into our tips, we just want to mention that you can apply all these tips and tricks but nothing beats an experienced photographer. Quality over quantity is key!

With all that said, let’s get into the tips!

Time of day is so important for flattering photos. We love shooting really early in the morning or of course sunset in the golden hour hues. This will give your subject the most beautiful complexion in comparison to harsh light and heavy shadows.
Choosing a photographer who knows how to make the most out of the environment allows for creativity to flourish. At Dreamy Moon Photography we love incorporating the nature into your photos and getting creative with the lens, bokeh, foreground and background.
Your environment matters! It’s not pretty to take images in front of rubbish, heavy distractions like crowds of people etc. Even if you are in a busy or distracting area, the right photograph will be able to capture the best angles that avoid all those distractions.
Clothing and cohesiveness go a long way, your outfits and appearance will be a reflection of the vibe of your final image. Avoid bright colours, obnoxious logos and heavy patterns! You don’t have to be matchy, matchy but cohesiveness is key. Think same tone family, an item that ties everyone together. A theme like boho, clean, modern, minimalistic, rustic etc.
Finally being open to letting your photograph take the lead and allowing that creative control to flourish. Trusting the process allows for some of the most amazing and beautiful images.
